Maine could be “hit harder than almost any other state” if lawsuit is successful

Today, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a major case that threatens to overturn the Affordable Care Act. The Republican lawsuit was sparked by the GOP tax bill that Senator Susan Collins supported and if successful, could eliminate coverage protections for the nearly 600,000 Mainers who have a preexisting condition.

Last year, Senator Collins cast the deciding vote to block a study on how the Republican lawsuit would impact Maine. We now know that if the lawsuit prevails, Maine would be “hit harder than almost any other state” with a 164% increase in the number of uninsured Mainers.

“Senator Collins voted to put our health care at risk so her corporate special interest donors could get a tax break,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Her indifference to the needs of everyday Mainers who depend on access to affordable care is exactly why Maine Democrats are ready to defeat Senator Collins in November and elect a new Senator who will fight for every Mainer.”
