Collins refused to extend tax credits, Mainers are paying the price
Augusta, Maine – Nearly three weeks since the start of the CoverME, ACA marketplace’s open enrollment period, Mainers continue to face “sticker shock” at their skyrocketing insurance rates since Susan Collins refused to include an extension of ACA tax credits in the deal to reopen the government.
Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“It’s been three weeks since open enrollment started and thousands of Mainers are seeing their insurance rates skyrocket because Susan Collins refused to extend ACA tax credits. Collins has consistently put affordable health care at risk for thousands of Mainers, and they will hold her accountable for it come 2026.”
This week, after repeatedly refusing to take action to extend ACA tax credits and saying there was no deadline, Collins said that the CoverME ACA marketplace’s open enrollment period already beginning makes it “difficult” to negotiate a deal on extending ACA tax credits.
