On Thursday Maine Democrats held a press conference outside the Federal Building in downtown Bangor.
They voiced their criticism of Senator Susan Collins, arguing that she is to blame for the passage of Trump’s spending bill which the President called the ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’
The bill advanced to the Senate Floor 51 to 49 after Collins voted yes.
“This is a very clear bipartisan issue. No one supports closing our hospitals, kicking people off healthcare, denying people heat and food. For Senator Susan Collins to vote to advance this bill. It’s awful. It’s just truly unconscionable,” Tipping said.
News reporter: According to Representative Amy Roeder, health care, SNAP benefits and heating assistance are all points of concern for the state. She also says multiple industries will be affected by MaineCare cuts, like hospitality, farming and especially our fishermen.
Rep. Amy Roeder: “We hear all the time in the legislature about our heritage industries struggling, and what can we do to help them? And the federal government is just stripping away one of the biggest protections that fishermen have.”

The Maine Democratic Party hosted a news conference on Thursday to voice concerns about Senator Susan Collins and her handling of President Donald Trump's budget bill.
Senator Collins voted “no” the bill, but only after voting for it to advance to the Senate floor, where it passed 51 to 49.
Attendees say they're worried about the impacts the bill will have on health care, SNAP benefits, and heating assistance.
“Collins ended up voting against the overall bill, but only after it was clear her vote was no longer needed to pass it,” a Democrat said during the news conference.
