“She will simply do and say whatever it takes to remain a U.S. senator from Maine”

Augusta, Maine – In case you missed it, Mainers continue to hammer Senator Susan Collins for her role in the passage of Republicans' dangerous budget bill that will have devastating impacts on Maine. Mainers are highlighting Collins’ “key” “pivotal vote” to advance the bill and her failure to use her power to stop it.

Here’s what they’re saying:

  • Michael Perfetti: “At this point, her legacy is largely settled, and I think she will simply do and say whatever it takes to remain a U.S. senator from Maine.

  • Nicole Bissonnette: “Collins acknowledged that nearly a third of Mainers rely on Medicaid, and the bill cuts could threaten our rural hospitals. But she was not concerned enough to vote to stop the BBB from proceeding.”

  • Isabel Higgins: “It continues the senator’s practice of voting for the people’s interest only when it will mean nothing, when she is well aware that there are sufficient votes for her party’s law to pass. We have — as women, as Mainers, as working class constituents and as retirees — seen this time and again, in Collins’ seemingly gullible attitude in believing the nominees who say they will do one thing and then do just the opposite once they have been confirmed to their position of power. We have also seen her repeatedly vote “no” when it is essentially moot. This is not courage.”

  • Ethan Strimling: “When Susan Collins ran for re-election in 2020, one of her main arguments for returning to the U.S. Senate was that, if elected to a fifth term, her seniority and power would be non-pareil in terms of helping Maine and the country,” but “Collins has been a non-entity on behalf of Maine. Indeed, she has ended up harming the very people she claimed she would use this power to help through her inaction and her actions. [...] Instead of using her immense power to actually stop the legislation, she just sat there and feebly watched it become law.”
