Collins has weighed in on every presidential election for the last 24 years -- including when she was up for reelection -- but this year she’s refusing to say how she’ll vote

Today, Senator Susan Collins refused to say whether she supports Trump’s reelection for the NINTH TIME, continuing her 577 day streak of refusing to be honest with Mainers about her position.

Collins repeated a line that she’s used to dodge this question in the past saying she’s, “not going to get involved in Presidential politics” but when a reporter pointed out that she was very publicly involved in presidential politics four years ago, Collins claimed that she got involved because she “wasn’t up for reelection” and didn’t have her own campaign to focus on.

But in 2008, Senator Collins was up for reelection AND she got involved in the presidential race, serving as a co-chairwoman for John McCain’s presidential campaign. In fact, Collins has weighed in on every single presidential election since she’s been in the Senate, until now.

Collins is desperate to use any excuse she can come up with to hide from her consistent support for Donald Trump, but her record is clear. In the first two years of the Trump administration, she voted to confirm every single one of the president’s judicial nominees. Collins also supported the corporate tax giveaway, which gave billions in tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy and voted to acquit Trump in the impeachment trial after voting a dozen times against key witnesses and evidence. Trump has even publicly backed Senator Collins’ reelection because he knows that he can count on her vote; according to CQ, she voted with him 94% of the time.

“Susan Collins has been loud and clear that she doesn’t feel the need to be honest with Mainers about her support for Trump,” said Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Lisa Roberts. “Luckily, her record of backing up the president speaks for itself and voters can see through all of her obfuscation to get to the truth: Collins votes with Trump when it counts, even when that hurts Maine.”
