In a new interview, Senator Susan Collins confirmed that if she is reelected, she will again support Mitch McConnell for Senate Majority Leader. McConnell has had a stranglehold on the Senate for the last 6 years and Senator Collins has rubber stamped his agenda every step of the way. Together, they’ve worked to undermine the Affordable Care Act, pass tax giveaways for corporations and the ultra wealthy, and transform the federal judiciary by confirming a record number of far-right justices who put Mainers’ health care and rights at risk.
Now, Collins is making it 100% clear that if Mainers send her back to the Senate, she’ll vote to keep McConnell in the driver's seat, and she’ll continue working for him, not Maine.
Senator Collins has been delivering for her friend Mitch for years, and McConnell has returned the favor by pouring tens of millions of dollars into her reelection effort. McConnell-aligned dark money groups and Super PACs have blanketed Maine’s airwaves with ads because they know that Collins is the key to keeping McConnell in power.
“Senator Collins has been in Mitch McConnell’s pocket for a long time,” said Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Lisa Roberts. “Her continued support for him has been great for her campaign warchest, but it has hurt Mainers. We need a Senator who’s fighting for us, not a rubber stamp for McConnell’s extreme agenda.”
