Collins refused to extend ACA tax credits, now the insurance groups backing her campaign are jacking up insurance rates
Augusta, Maine – As Mainers continue to see their insurance rates skyrocket, they have Susan Collins refusing to extend ACA tax credits and her ongoing efforts to do the bidding of her insurance group donors to thank.
REMINDER: Previous reporting revealed Susan Collins has raked in nearly $120,000 in donations from insurance companies who are raising health care “premiums on Mainers by as much as 23% in 2026.” With insurance rates set to increase across the board, Maine leaders have highlighted “one of the reasons [for rate increases] stated by every insurance company is the expiration of these enhanced premium tax credits.”
Collins refused to include an extension for ACA tax credits in the deal to reopen the government, repeatedly voting against a bill that would have extended the credits and called ACA tax credits “poison pills.”
Maine Democratic Party spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Susan Collins is to blame for Mainers’ skyrocketing insurance rates. Instead of using the countless opportunities she’s had to defend our health care and pocketbooks, Collins remains beholden to insurance company donors who are using her inaction as a reason to jack up insurance rates on Mainers.”
