Westbrook, MAINE - Today, Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett criticized Republican Congressman Bruce Poliquin for his vote in favor of President’s Trump’s rescissions package, which cuts unspent funds from the Children’s Health Insurance Program as a way to pay down the national debt. But just months months ago, Poliquin voted to explode our national debt by $1.8 trillion to finance a corporate tax cuts:

“Six months after Congressman Poliquin voted to sabotage the ACA and cut taxes for corporations and the wealthiest among us, Poliquin has once again shown his constituents where his priorities are by voting to cut funding from a children’s health program.

“He says he supports taking away these funds because ‘spending is out of control,’ but just months ago he added $1.8 trillion dollars to our national debt to pay for corporate tax cuts. What the Congressman says he believes and what his record shows just don’t add up.”

President Trump and Republican leaders introduced a rescissions package that would cut $7 billion from CHIP, as well as $800 million from the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation program, and $107 million from funding for Hurricane Sandy relief. Even Senator Susan Collins questioned the proposed package, but that didn’t stop Bruce Poliquin from co-sponsoring the measure and voting for its passage today.
