Former Governor Paul LePage has been trying to trick Maine people into believing he’s changed, but news this week clearly proves otherwise. Just take a look at some of the headlines about LePage’s outrageous claims of voter fraud:

Maine Public: LePage claims out-of-staters stuffed ballot boxes — but 2 secretaries of state say it's impossible

Bangor Daily News: Paul LePage revives unsubstantiated claims in new push for voter ID laws

News Center Maine: LePage makes claims of voter fraud, without firm evidence, in push for voter ID laws

When confronted about his lies, LePage responded by attacking a reporter. Later in the week, evidence surfaced that he’s been making these baseless claims about election fraud for months.

He also attended the opening of a Republican campaign office targeted at reaching new Mainers, which was greeted with skepticism by some members of the new Mainer community. At the opening, a speaker called Democrats “anti-God” and supportive of “sexual perversion” and “the wholesale slaughter of innocent life.” LePage stood idly by, tacitly condoning comments that fly in the face of the former governor’s campaign pledge to encourage civil discourse and bring Maine people together.

“Between the lies, refusing to condone hateful comments, and fighting with reporters, this week really had the full Paul LePage experience,” said Drew Gattine, Chair of the Maine Democratic Party. “It shows that despite his attempts to trick Mainers into thinking he’s changed, he’s just the same guy who spent years failing, lying to, and fighting with the people of our state. We can’t go back to that era.”

Since announcing his campaign, LePage has spewed lies, smeared Governor Mills, and doubled down on his failed policy agenda. That’s why, despite his claims that he’s changed, the Bangor Daily News and Portland Press Herald have reported that, “Plenty of the old LePage is still there” and “The new Paul LePage looks a lot like the old one.”
