Augusta, MAINE – Sabato’s Crystal Ball, a nonpartisan publication from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics that analyzes and predicts elections, today announced that it has moved Maine’s race for governor from “toss-up” to “leans Democratic.” Sabato’s Crystal Ball is now the fourth national publication to identify Maine as a top-pick opportunity for Democrats in the past several months, joining National JournalPolitico, and the Washington Post.

Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement in response:

“One year of Donald Trump and seven years of Paul LePage have done little to improve the lives of Maine people who are tired of political brinkmanship and divisive, failed policies.

"While the Republican candidates seem intent on delivering more of the same, Democrats stand ready to deliver a new vision for Maine focused on building a stronger, more prosperous economy through policies that will grow Maine’s middle-class. Our candidates look forward to working hard every day to convey that message to the people of Maine and to earn their trust and respect.”
