Even after Kavanaugh’s dissent proves her wrong, Collins clings to claim that he doesn’t pose a threat to Roe

After a full day of dodging questions about Brett Kavanaugh’s opposition to reproductive rights, Senator Susan Collins has chosen to completely ignore reality and continue claiming that Kavanaugh doesn’t pose a threat to Roe v. Wade. This comes after Collins previously said that she didn’t regret her decision to confirm Kavanaugh “in the least” even after he took anti-choice positions on the Supreme Court.

Senator Collins justified her vote to confirm Kavanaugh by asserting that he would respect precedent with regard to Roe v. Wade and reproductive rights. But today, Kavanaugh ignored precedent and argued to uphold a law that would have effectively eliminated access to abortion care in the state of Louisiana.

“Collins has been willfully ignorant about Brett Kavanaugh’s hostility to reproductive rights since day one,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “She promised Maine people that Kavanaugh would protect our rights, but even as he rules to strike them down again and again, it’s clear that she’d rather put her fingers in her ears than be honest about the consequences of her vote to confirm a justice who has shown us that he will not hesitate to harm DREAMers, the LGBTQ+ community, and our fundamental reproductive rights.”
