Following the announcement that Maine Republican lawmakers once again denied a proposal from Senate President Troy Jackson and House Speaker Sara Gideon to reconvene the Legislature, Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra released the following statement:

“Republican lawmakers have once again made it crystal clear that they’re more interested in political posturing than mitigating the hardships Maine families and small businesses are facing. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have found ways to adapt and continue the necessary work in committees to clearly outline what needs to be taken up in a special session. In fact, the overwhelming majority of bills reported out achieved bipartisan support. That’s why it’s baffling that Republicans are now refusing to reconvene.

"We elected our lawmakers to do a job, and while Democrats are ready to deliver for Maine people, Republicans are playing political games. Make no mistake, voters will remember their refusal to put Mainers ahead of politics this November.”
