Westbrook, MAINE – Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement today on the beginning of the Maine GOP’s Convention:

“For Mary Mayhew, Shawn Moody, Garrett Mason, and Ken Fredette, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – so what better way for them to honor Paul LePage this weekend than to fight one another for the mantle of who’s most like him?

“But while they work hard to out-LePage one another, the fact is that Maine remains in desperate need of new leadership and new ideas. Our economic growth lags, the opioid epidemic rages on, and too many families – particularly in rural Maine – have been left behind by LePage’s failed policies.  And because of extreme Republican obstruction in Augusta, bills to expand Medicaid, address the opioid crisis, support direct care workers, and fund Maine schools all sit unfinished – while Mainers pay the price.

“It’s time for a new agenda in Maine – one that is focused on growing the economy and supporting the middle-class so that every part of our state can have a brighter, more prosperous future. One focused on providing affordable, accessible health care to all Mainers. One focused on making Augusta work again for Maine.

“Democrats will deliver that while Republicans will deliver four more years of failed leadership.”
