Westbrook, MAINE - Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement in response to the LePage Administration's apparent failure to file plans with the federal government to expand Medicaid, as required by law:

“Governor LePage and his Administration have failed Maine once again. Not only is the governor’s continued opposition to Medicaid expansion totally misguided and out of step with Maine voters, but his endless obstruction is now in violation of the law - and it’s Maine’s economy and Maine people who are left to suffer the consequences.

“What Maine needs is a governor who understands that expanding Medicaid will provide health coverage to tens of thousands of Mainers, inject millions of dollars into the state’s economy, and shore up struggling hospitals in rural parts of the state. Every Democrat running to be our next governor knows that and is committed to expanding Medicaid, but every Republican is hell-bent on continuing LePage’s senseless obstruction and leaving Mainers at risk.”
