Augusta, MAINE - Maine Democratic Party Chair Phil Bartlett issued the following statement congratulating Jared Golden on being elected to represent Maine’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“In Congress, Jared Golden will be a leader who defends affordable, accessible health care, who fights to create jobs and build a fair economy for all Mainers, and who will always prioritize the interests of Mainers over those of anyone else. Jared Golden is ready to get to work in Washington and I couldn't be happier to congratulate him on his victory.”

Maine Democrats now hold both of Maine's Congressional seats, the Blaine House with the election of Janet Mills, and majorities in both the Maine House and Senate.

In Maine's Second Congressional District, no challenger has been victorious when challenging an incumbent in a century, and for the first time, Ranked Choice Voting was used to determine a true consensus victor. Congressman-elect Golden garnered 50.53% of the total, winning with nearly 3,000 more votes than his nearest competitor.
