Westbrook, MAINE - Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement tonight congratulating Jared Golden on winning the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Congressman Bruce Poliquin for Maine’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“From dismantling health care, to handing out tax breaks to the wealthiest and corporations, to exploding the national debt, when Mainers look at Washington, they don’t see much to be proud of -- and when they look at Congressman Poliquin, they see someone who’s marched in lockstep with Republicans to make it all happen.

“So after nearly four years of Congressman Poliquin’s failed leadership in Washington, Democrats across Maine’s Second Congressional District declared they are ready for a change and that Jared Golden is the leader who will deliver it.

“Jared will be a leader who defends affordable, accessible health care, who fights to create jobs and build a fair economy for all Mainers, and who will always prioritize the interests of Mainers over those of anyone else. The bottom-line is that, unlike Congressman Poliquin, Jared Golden is ready to lead, ready to fight, and ready to win for Maine people.

“Of course, this primary would not have been what it was without the leadership of Lucas St. Clair, Craig Olson, and Jonathan Fulford. I join with Democrats across the Second District in thanking them for their commitment, for their hard work, and for their ideas. Their participation made this race better and made the Maine Democratic Party stronger, and I am grateful for it.”
