Augusta, ME – Maine’s once-per-decade redistricting process has officially come to a close and Maine Democratic Party leaders applauds the work of Senate President Troy Jackson, House Majority Leader Michelle Dunphy, and the other members of the Apportionment Commission for their perseverance in negotiating the redrawing of Maine's congressional, legislative, and county commission districts. The Commission’s work, completed this year on a condensed timeline due to delays in receiving census data, will continue to ensure Mainers have fair political representation for the next ten years.

Maine’s relatively amicable redistricting process also stands in sharp contrast to recent national partisan rhetoric on elections.

“I am grateful to my fellow Commission members for putting differences aside to negotiate a compromise that is in the best interest of the Maine people. Maine's bipartisan process is truly a model to be followed in other states. I'm really proud of the work we’ve done here,” said Bev Uhlenhake, Vice Chair of the Maine Democratic Party. “This process was just one more example of how our local Democratic leaders are delivering for all Mainers. And I'm a bit of a geek, so serving on the Commission warmed my geeky heart!”

Bev Uhlenhake served on the Apportionment Commission as the member selected and appointed by fellow Democrats.
