Bush Praises D.C. Republicans’ Budget Law That Takes Away Health Care From Mainers
Bush on MaineCare: “We’ve Got to Roll People Back”
At a gathering of Maine’s GOP gubernatorial candidates over the weekend, Jonathan Bush and David Jones both pledged to take away MaineCare if elected.
Bush said he “can't wait to get [his] hands on the health care system in Maine … we've got to roll people back.” Jones agreed, saying that he would replicate Donald Trump’s disastrous DOGE scheme to slash MaineCare. Later Bush went even further, praising the Trump administration’s budget that takes away health care from 61,000 Mainers, puts rural hospitals at serious risk of closure, and has already closed one primary care practice in Maine.
Watch the Bush and Jones exchange on taking away MaineCare here:
Jonathan Bush: Oh, I can't wait to get my hands on the health care system in Maine. Oh my lordy. Shifting everybody on to Medicaid is a crazy and terrible idea; destroys the accountability with the social contract. We've got to roll people back.
[...]
David Jones: This goes back to Dave's Office of Government Efficiency … We will look under the hood. We will find out what the hell — there's a lot of people that are on MaineCare that definitely should not be on it.
And watch Bush praise the Trump administration’s record of taking away health care here:

Jonathan Bush: I've got so much that I'm excited about with this administration, particularly in the area of healthcare.
The comments at the forum are just the latest example of Republicans’ race to the right. Bush and Jones join fellow candidate Bobby Charles in supporting taking away health care. Earlier this year, Charles also praised Trump’s unpopular budget law.
