Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson:

  • “Susan Collins has had this political charade that she's played for a really long time, successfully. She votes with the GOP and with Trump when they need her most. The most recent example being the toxic GOP budget bill that she voted to advance just so that she could vote against it in the end. And I think what's different this time is that Mainers are seeing through that charade.

  • “Maine is a state with 1.4 million people. You have 200 people showing up to a local ribbon cutting, just with the small chance of hope that they're going to be able to get answers from their own senator, Susan Collins, who again, Chris, ran on the platform of leveraging her seniority to protect us in Maine against the chaos and the devastation that she knew was going to come out of the Trump administration. And instead of doing that, you've seen her bend over backwards to enable and further the GOP’s agenda, and we're not seeing through that anymore.

  • “You're seeing that on the ground. You're also seeing that in her polling numbers. She's double digits underwater right now, and in 2019 – apples to apples, a year out from election day – she had a positive approval rating.”
