Augusta, Maine – Appropriations Chair Susan Collins is reportedly “not part” of efforts to extend the expiring ACA premium tax credits despite claiming to support extending them.
Collins also “has yet to sponsor” any legislation to extend the tax credits as she takes major campaign contributions from insurance companies who are planning to raise health care premiums on Mainers by as much as 23%. Collins also recently declared it was “above [her] pay grade,” what goes into appropriations bills when asked about the expiring tax credits.
This sit-back approach is in stark contrast to Collins past statements that she chairs “the most powerful committee in Congress,” and that she would “shape the fiscal priorities of our country.”

“I'm very grateful for this opportunity to help shape the fiscal priorities of our country.” [FOX ABC Maine, 11/26/24]
“It is the Appropriations Committee, […]It's the most powerful committee in Congress. I've worked my way up in the committee, and it has jurisdiction over all discretionary spending.” [WGAN, 9/22/24]
