Augusta, MAINE — Senator Collins is reportedly reviewing the final language in the GOP tax bill today before announcing her final decision. Maine Democratic Party Chair Phil Bartlett released the following statement urging Collins to rescind her support for the bill:

"Ever since Senator Collins voted for this corporation-enriching, deficit-exploding tax bill, Maine people have been calling, writing, and protesting at her offices, begging her to rescind her support.

"They know this bill helps corporations and the wealthy, not hardworking Maine families. They know that this tax scam doesn't pay for itself, and that Republicans will make cuts to programs Maine people rely on, like Medicaid and Social Security, to foot the bill. They know that Republicans made a bad bill worse when they proposed repealing the ACA individual mandate, which would take health care away from tens of thousands of Maine people and drive up costs for those lucky enough to keep it — and they know Senator Collins's proposed "fixes" won't do nearly enough to repair the damage.

"Multiple independent analyses, economists, and the majority of Maine people have all rightly panned the GOP tax bill as a massive giveaway to the 1% at the expense of everyone else. It's time for Senator Collins to listen. We call on Senator Collins to stand up for the people she was elected to represent and rescind her support for the GOP tax scam."
