In case you missed it, the Bangor Daily News reported today that former Governor Paul LePage was caught spreading blatant misinformation about Maine’s elections.

The DNC announced today that it is granting a funding request from the Maine Democratic Party to build out a team of rural organizers across the state. These organizers will connect with rural Mainers, encourage robust voter turnout, and maintain a coordinated approach to voter engagement across Maine’s gubernatorial, congressional and state legislature campaigns. With these new roles, the Maine Democratic Party will be well-positioned for early and consistent voter outreach throughout the primary and general election cycles.

A report this week in the Bangor Daily News reported on Paul LePage’s most recent line of attack against Governor Janet Mills. Since Mills unveiled her plan to send direct relief checks of $500 to more than 800,000 Maine taxpayers in last Thursday’s State of the State address, LePage’s campaign has condemned the checks as a “campaign stunt,” despite the fact that the idea was originally proposed by Republicans.

In a new op-ed, published today in the Bangor Daily News, Rockland resident Donna McNeil, blasts Paul LePage and Maine Republicans for their opposition to abortion rights.

Reporting in the Maine Beacon revealed strong ties between Paul LePage and the dangerous “Big Lie” conspiracy theory that led to the deadly Capitol riot last January. 

In this weekend’s Maine Sunday Telegram, columnist and Editorial Page Editor Greg Kesich blasted Paul LePage and Maine Republicans for their long history of “trashing the legitimacy of elections.” In the column, Kesich describes how this record began long before Donald Trump came along, starting when LePage took office in 2011 where the former governor and the Maine Republicans engaged in a concerted effort to undermine Mainers’ faith in our elections.

Democrat Jim Boyle has won a three-way special election for House District 27, which includes parts of both Gorham and Scarborough. The day was particularly noteworthy for its freezing temperatures. This victory marks the second special election win for Democrats in only three months.

Today, in a Bangor Daily News column, Drew Gattine, Chair of the Maine Democratic Party, rebutted recent claims made by Maine GOP Chair Demi Kouzounas. Kouzounas had criticized Maine’s economic recovery (33rd in the nation according to one metric), apparently ignoring LePage’s record on a similar measure. Under Governor LePage, Maine’s economic recovery ranked 49th following the great recession of 2008.

A report in today’s Bangor Daily News examining Paul LePage’s plan–or lack thereof–to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic shed light on the former governor’s anti-science agenda. According to the report, LePage would rescind the highly effective vaccine mandate on health care workers, and believes that for unvaccinated children “what you should do is let them all have it,” despite the fact that, as the BDN notes, “epidemiologists have raised concern that children still spread the virus to vulnerable relatives.”

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Republicans will look to repeal recent Democratic abortion-rights expansions if they return to power in Augusta after the 2022 midterms, particularly if the U.S. Supreme Court strikes down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision next year.

Democrats took aim Thursday at Republican congressional hopeful Bruce Poliquin for his “tacit endorsement” of a conservative Christian political group that remains deeply opposed to the legalization of gay marriage almost a decade ago.

At the first presidential debate, Donald Trump made the outrageous claim that insulin is now “as cheap as water” for most Americans thanks to his administration’s policies. Not only have insulin prices not decreased at all during Trump’s presidency, but his administration has failed to make any significant progress in curbing prescription drug costs.

“Tonight, we saw just how much Senator Collins has changed. The woman Mainers once trusted to be our voice in Washington has become so beholden to corporate special interests and her party overlords that she’s not working for us anymore.

“Today, we pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of working Mainers who are the economic engines of our state. Democrats believe the right to organize for fair wages, safe working conditions, and workplace protections is central to making the economy work for everyone."

Today, ahead of the Trump campaign’s “Women for Trump” event in Maine, the Maine Democratic Party hosted a roundtable with State Senator Cathy Breen (D-Cumberland) and State Representative Lois Galgay Reckitt (D-South Portland) to discuss the myriad ways in which Donald Trump’s presidency has failed women. 

This week, Senator Susan Collins lost the public support of what may be her most prominent former endorser yet: Senator Angus King. King is hardly the first former Collins endorser to announce that he will no longer be publicly supporting her. Mainers all over the state who voted for Collins in the past have shared why they’ve turned against her this year.
