Earlier today in an interview on Maine Public, Mainers heard Senator Susan Collins make some astounding statements about her and her party’s nonexistent health care plan and her continued support of Mitch McConnell’s stranglehold on the Senate. She also continued to evade questions directly from Mainers about her support for Donald Trump, continuing her 663 day streak of refusing to be honest about her presidential vote.

Here’s what Mainers heard from Senator Collins:

  1. She admitted that as her party works to overturn the Affordable Care Act and strip millions of Americans of their health care coverage during a pandemic, “there is not a comprehensive plan” on how they will address health care if they succeed

Senator Collins admitted that as her party forges ahead with their lawsuit to strike down the ACA, THEY HAVE NO HEALTH CARE PLAN. In just a few weeks, the Trump administration is arguing before the Supreme Court that Collins “knowingly voted to destroy the health care law” with her vote for the GOP tax bill, which opened the door to their lawsuit by repealing the individual mandate. If their case is successful nearly 100,000 Mainers could lose their health care coverage — and Senator Collins has no plan to fix it.

  1. She reaffirmed her complete support for Mitch McConnell to continue leading the Senate

Collins reiterated her full support for Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority leader and confirmed that if reelected she will vote to keep him in power. Collins is leaving no room for doubt: If voters send her back to the Senate she’ll keep working for Mitch, not Mainers.

  1. She refused to answer a direct question from a Mainer on her support for Trump

Lately, Senator Collins’ favorite dodge when asked about her support for Donald Trump has been to say “not a single constituent has asked me that question,” but today on Maine calling when a Mainer asked her that exact question, she still refused to answer. It’s clear that Collins has no interest in being honest with her constituents — she’s made a political calculation that she’s more likely to win if she keeps Mainers in the dark.
