Senate’s most unpopular senator is raising money for the second most unpopular senator

Mitch McConnell promised one of his most reliable footsoldiers would “be well funded,” and today he will personally see to it that special interests continue to come to Senator Collins’ rescue. The invite-only fundraiser headlined by McConnell comes just days after a new poll found her approval continues to decline, a dark money group is already on air to try to defend her and for the second week in a row, constituents took out a full-page ad in the Portland Press Herald in an attempt to get answers to questions she continues to dodge. .

It’s no wonder that Collins is considered among “McConnell’s most endangered incumbents.”

“Susan Collins has lost touch with her constituents over her 22 years in Washington,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “As McConnell attempts to save Collins through big dollar fundraisers, Mainers are getting ready to vote out a senator who hasn’t represented their best interests in years.”

Susan Collins of Maine; Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado; appointed Sen. Martha McSally of Arizona; Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina — and Sens. Joni Ernst of Iowa and David Perdue of Georgia if they need the help.”
