Westbrook, MAINE - Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement today after Republicans in the State Senate rejected a Senate Order that would have addressed the very concerns they raised about the implementation of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV):
“Once again, Republicans have shown that their only goal is to undermine the implementation of Ranked Choice Voting. Democrats have tried, time and again, to work with Republicans to clarify and implement RCV in order to honor the will of Maine people - but at every turn, Republicans have done nothing but obstruct and feign concern for the integrity of our elections, when they are the ones doing everything they can to undermine the electoral process in Maine.
“The bottom line is that Republicans are being nakedly obstructionist: they raised concerns about the implementation of RCV, and when given the opportunity to address their own concerns, they said no. Their goal here is clear: continue to defy the will of the voters and make sure RCV doesn’t happen.”
