Westbrook, MAINE – Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement tonight in response to the CBS 13, Fox 23, and Bangor Daily News Republican gubernatorial debate:

“After tonight’s debate, it’s clear that Ken Fredette, Mary Mayhew, Shawn Moody, and Garrett Mason weren’t listening when Governor LePage said that Republicans should come together. In fact, what Maine people saw tonight was a messy primary where the candidates relentlessly attacked one another over who’s the most conservative and who’s the most like LePage. Tonight, they exposed just how extreme the Maine Republican Party has become over the last eight years.

“And when they managed not to fight with one another, all they did was prove, once again, that all they have to offer is four more years of LePage’s failed policies and divisive politics – and that’s the last thing Maine needs.

“While the Republicans work hard to out-LePage one another, Maine’s Democratic candidates for governor are working hard to put forward plans that will expand health care, grow a vibrant economy, create sustainable jobs with good benefits, and repair the damage that LePage has done to our state’s government and our state’s reputation.”
