Westbrook, Maine - NARAL Pro-Choice America endorsed four candidates for the Maine Senate yesterday, adding to a week of high-profile endorsements for Democratic legislative candidates in Maine.

“Maine Democrats—and these four Democrats in particular—are champions and advocates when it comes to women’s health care and reproductive freedom,” said Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett. “We need leaders like Cathy Breen, Ben Chipman, Tom Wright, and Heather Sanborn in the Maine Senate because the stakes are simply too high when it comes to this issue.”

At a press conference, the four candidates joined a representative from NARAL to accept their endorsements:

“Let me be perfectly clear—access to safe, legal abortion is an economic issue, and every woman—regardless of her status—has the fundamental right to her own autonomy,” said Sen. Cathy Breen. “In the Maine Senate, ensuring the economic success and reproductive rights of Maine women has been a top priority for Senate Democrats. Unfortunately, we’ve seen time and time again that Republicans draw partisan lines on common sense protections.”

“My life’s mission has been to provide quality primary care and to increase access to health care for Maine families,” said Linda Sanborn. “I will speak out for women and not allow our reproductive rights to be taken away.”
