Following the passage of Families First Coronavirus Response Act in the U.S. Senate, Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra issued the following statement:

“We’re glad to see the Senate finally taking action to secure free COVID-19 testing, paid sick leave for many workers, and expanded food assistance and unemployment insurance for people experiencing hardship in the face of this crisis. As the state with the oldest population in the nation, Maine needs leaders who will take action to protect the health of our seniors and we applaud Representatives Golden and Pingree for their efforts throughout this uncertain time.

“Every day that the Senate delayed in passing this important legislation put communities at risk. In the days and weeks ahead, Majority Leader McConnell and Senate Republicans must act quickly and prioritize the health of our communities first.”
