Maine Democrats AGAIN Expand Abortion Access, Continue Health Care Achievements
As Republicans in Washington and across the country threaten reproductive rights, Maine Democrats enact second bill expanding abortion access

Today, Governor Janet Mills signed into law Rep. Joyce McCreight’s LD 820, “An Act To Prevent Discrimination in Public and Private Insurance Coverage for Pregnant Women in Maine”, a bill requiring public and private insurance that cover prenatal care to cover abortion. This is the second piece of legislation in Maine protecting and expanding access to abortions, with the firstexpanding access by allowing physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses to perform abortions in addition to physicians. This comes as Maine Democrats have prioritized health care this legislative session.

Maine Democrats continue stepping up to protect reproductive health care as Republicans in Washington and across the country threaten and roll back such rights. With Republicans in Washington confirming anti-choice Supreme Court and judicial nominees, states across the country roll back reproductive health care and move to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra issued the following statement:

“Maine Democrats continue to enact legislation that protects reproductive rights and health care for our state. Gov. Janet Mills and Rep. Joyce McCreight led the way on this historic legislation that ensures Mainers’ reproductive health care is covered by private and public insurance plans. As Republicans in Washington threaten Mainers’ right to choose, Maine Democrats again showed we won’t back down from a fight.”
