At the April 7th, 2024 meeting of the State Committee, members passed the following resolution:
We are horrified by the brutal attack and atrocities committed by Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023. We are also horrified by the ensuing hostilities in Gaza. While respecting the right of Israel to defend itself, the cycle of inhumanity must cease and the suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians must end. The Maine Democratic Party believes that civilians on both sides deserve safety, security, and basic human rights. We urge all parties to quickly end acts of war in order to address manifest humanitarian needs and to create the conditions that allow Israelis and Palestinians to live with dignity, peace and safety.
We are appalled by the rise in Antisemitism and Islamophobia in the state of Maine that has occurred as a result of the brutalities and atrocities that have been occuring in Palestine and Israel, particularly since October 7, 2023. Across the state, Islamophobic and Antisemitic violence, as well as the use of Islamophobic and Antisemitic rhetoric and images have risen, which cause serious harm to not just the victims, but also traumatize entire communities and damage public confidence in their safety. Islamophobia and Antisemitism have no place in Maine, and the Maine Democratic Party is committed to building an inclusive and equitable community for all. Therefore, we condemn all hate against Muslim and Jewish individuals and communities, and affirm that we respect and appreciate Muslim and Jewish individuals as members of our community, and that we stand in solidarity with the Muslim and Jewish communities in support of their dignity, health, safety, and welfare.
