In light of the passing of Representative Lois Reckitt, Maine Democratic Party Chair Bev Uhlenhake released the following statement:
“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Rep. Lois Reckitt, who was such a mentor to so many of us. It is a tremendous loss for Maine to now be without such a forceful and effective advocate for women & girls, domestic violence survivors, and the LGBTQ+ community. Representative Reckitt’s decades of trailblazing work as an activist and in the legislature, where she tirelessly pushed for an Equal Rights Amendment to Maine’s Constitution, have changed the landscape of civil rights here in Maine, and we will do everything in our power to help continue to carry her legacy forward.”
