Augusta, MAINE – In response to Republican Congressman Bruce Poliquin’s refusal to speak about his donations from the NRA, Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement:

"In Maine, we have a had a long and proud tradition of public servants who have stood up and told us what they believed in because they knew that’s what real leadership entailed. Congressman Poliquin is not a real leader. Instead, he cowers from his constituents and he hides from the press. The people of Maine’s 2nd Congressional District deserve better. They deserve someone who will answer their questions and who will be upfront with them.

“If Congressman Poliquin feels comfortable enough taking money from the NRA, then he should also feel comfortable enough talking to his constituents about it.”
