Ahead of tonight’s Vice Presidential debate, Mainers across the state are calling out some of the biggest lies and attacks on health care they heard on last week’s debate stage from President Trump.

Instead of presenting any sort of hopeful vision for how he will lead this country out of out of the  health and economic crises started under his watch, Trump spent the entirety of last week lying to Mainers about pre-existing conditions while his administration is attempting to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and risk the health coverage of nearly 100,000 Mainers in the middle of a pandemic. He made outrageously out-of-touch claims about the skyrocketing price of insulin many Mainers rely on to survive. And he attacked Americans who suffer from substance abuse even as his administration has failed to take any meaningful action to address the opioid crisis that continues to ravage families in Maine and across the country.

“One of the things that really stuck out to me was his claim that there are not 100 million Americans with a pre-existing condition. That’s just not true…Joe Biden understands that in order to protect Mainers and Americans with pre-existing conditions, like my dad, we need to keep and build on the Affordable Care Act.”

WATCH

“I heard President Trump say that he had reduced the price of insulin so much that it’s like water. That’s just not true. I have a child with Type I diabetes. Families like mine can tell you that the price of insulin hasn’t gone down a penny.”

WATCH:

“Last week during the debate, President Trump attacked Americans who suffer from substance abuse. As one of thousands of members of the recovery community in the state of Maine, I was appalled, but not surprised by his comments.”
