Last night in Cleveland, Donald Trump again refused to condemn white supremacists, spread misinformation about the election, and would not commit to a peaceful transition of power if he loses. But once again, Senator Susan Collins is silent on Trump’s assault on our democratic norms and values.
For the last 654 days, Senator Susan Collins has refused to be honest with Mainers about her support for Donald Trump. Even now, as the president escalates his attacks on the legitimacy of the election and doubles down on his tacit support for racist groups, Collins lacks the political courage to hold Trump accountable or tell Mainers the truth about who she thinks should be leading the country for the next four years.
“Mainers deserve to know whether Senator Collins believes a man who is unwilling to disavow white supremacy deserves another term as Commander in Chief,” said Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Lisa Roberts. “Her silence in the face of Trump’s attacks on our values and our democracy are disqualifying and Mainers are ready to elect a Senator with a backbone.”
