When Senator Susan Collins first asked Mainers to send her to the Senate in 1996, she decried her opponent for having a “lengthy career in elected office” and pledged to serve only two terms in the Senate. Of course, she broke that promise long ago and is now asking Mainers to elect her to a fifth term.
After decades in Washington, Senator Collins is not working for Mainers any more. She’s gotten cozy with Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the corporate special interests that are funding her campaign and has consistently put her party and her donors ahead of the needs of Maine families.
“It’s time for Mainers to take Senator Collins’ advice from 1996 and elect a ‘new voice’ to represent us in Washington,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Collins has abandoned the values that she promised to uphold when she first ran for office, and voters are ready to replace her with someone who will work for us, not Mitch McConnell.”
