In an interview today, Senator Susan Collins dodged again when prompted by conservative radio host Mike Violette to say whether she’s voting for Donald Trump. Rather than giving a straightforward answer, Collins paused and laughed before criticizing Joe Biden’s candidacy and claiming that he has moved too far to the left.
VIOLETTE: “The Biden-Kamala Harris ticket is Marxism in progress. I don’t want that. I don’t think you do either, that’s why I think you’re gonna vote for Trump.”
Senator Collins said that she would not campaign against Biden, but as the election has drawn closer she has repeatedly criticized his campaign to a Republican audience, including behind closed doors with her wealthy donors and on a conservative talk radio show. After spending the last 639 days refusing to admit her support for Trump, this is the second time in as many months that Collins has refused to answer about her support for Trump on Violette's radio program alone - and follows a week of Collins’ repeated dodges about Trump.
“Mainers are sick and tired of Senator Collins playing political games and we deserve an honest answer about her support for Trump,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “She’s been a rubber stamp for Trump’s agenda for the last four years, and it’s time for Collins to come clean about how she’s voting this year.”
