Collins has already requested an absentee ballot to vote in the presidential election, but continues to dodge questions about who she’s supporting

The general election is just 10 days away, and even though Senator Susan Collins has her absentee ballot in hand, she still refuses to tell Mainers whether she will be voting to re-elect Donald Trump. She began ducking this question 678 days ago, and now that she can see the finish line, she seems more determined than ever to keep ducking all the way until the end.

Collins’ political calculation to avoid telling Mainers the truth may be complicated tomorrow by a Trump visit to her hometown of Bangor. Even if Collins sticks to her strategy of hiding out while the president is in town, her record of support for him over the last four years is more transparent than ever:

  • Senator Collins has consistently helped shield Trump from accountability, including voting a dozen times to block witnesses and evidence before she voted to acquit him on all charges in the Senate impeachment trial.

“Senator Collins has reached the home stretch of her effort to go the entire election without telling Mainers who she’s voting for, but when she reaches the finish line she may not like what she sees,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Even though Collins refuses to be honest with us about who she supports, Mainers know that she has done nothing but support President Trump’s every whim these last four years, and we’re ready to send her packing.”
