Last week, Senator Susan Collins justified her vote to acquit Donald Trump by saying he learned a “pretty big lesson” from being impeached. But today when asked what lesson he had learned from his impeachment, Trump said he learned that “Democrats are crooked...and my poll numbers are 10 points higher.”
In a “stunning reversal” just hours ago, Collins refused to say what “lesson” she thought Trump learned, further exposing her paper thin defense of her votes to acquit last week.
“The only lesson Senator Collins has taught Donald Trump is that she doesn’t have the backbone to hold him accountable when he abuses the powers of the presidency,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Mainers know she voted to enable a sham trial and a corrupt president and we’re going to remember how she sold us out in November.”
