Today, Mitch McConnell aligned dark money group One Nation started running a new ad to distract voters from Senator Susan Collins’s disastrous record of voting to take away Mainers’ health care. What Collins’ dark money backers aren’t telling Mainers is that she’s voted in lockstep with McConnell, including at least a dozen times to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act, and campaigned on her record of voting against the health care law “from the very beginning.”

Even the Trump administration has argued that Senator Collins “knowingly voted to destroy” the ACA with her vote for the GOP tax giveaway. By repealing the individual mandate, that tax bill laid the groundwork for the ongoing Republican lawsuit to strike down the ACA, including coverage protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Collins had full knowledge that her tax bill vote could lead to the elimination of the health care law because she had already signed on to an amicus brief that asserted the entire ACA could not stand without the individual mandate.

As people across the country with pre-existing conditions anxiously wait for the Supreme Court to hear the case that could cause nearly 100,000 Mainers to lose their health insurance coverage, Senator Collins has maintained that she doesn’t regret her vote “at all.”

“Senator Collins has consistently voted against our health care and against protections for people with preexisting conditions,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “Collins’ dark money backers are trying to muddy the water on this issue because they know that Senator Collins can’t win on her real record.”
