Until this year, Collins had taken a public position in every presidential contest dating back to 1996—will she tell the truth tonight on the debate stage?

For the last 635 days, Senator Susan Collins has refused to tell Mainers whether she’s voting to reelect Donald Trump. But she hasn’t always been so cagey about her support for her party’s nominee—in fact, she used to argue that it was “typical” for officeholders such as herself to chair the campaigns of the presidential nominee from their party.

This year, Collins has trotted out every excuse in the book to avoid saying whether she believes Donald Trump should lead the country for four more years. But independent reporting has found that her reasoning “doesn’t add up.” After all, Collins has taken a public position in every presidential election since she first ran for Senate in 1996. The only explanation for why Collins has chosen not to tell the truth this year is that she’s made a political calculation that her odds of reelection are better if she doesn’t reveal her support for Trump.

But Mainers can see through Senator Collins’ craven political game—they know she voted with Trump 94% of the time. Even the Chair of the Maine GOP confirmed that Trump and Collins “both support each other” and the president himself has said he’s 100% behind her reelection.

“After 24 years in Washington, Senator Collins has become so comfortable playing political games that she won’t even answer a simple yes or no question,” said Maine Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Marra. “After almost four years of supporting Trump’s agenda, it’s not hard to see where Senator Collins’ loyalties lie. Mainers deserve to know the truth and tonight on the debate stage, Collins must finally come clean.”
