The Maine Democratic Party (MDP) is hiring a full-time Constituency Engagement Manager. This position will work to build relationships and a sustainable network of engagement within Black, Indigenous, New Mainer, and other communities of color in Maine. In order to make MDP more accessible and inclusive, the Constituency Engagement Manager will help MDP design and execute programs that focus on three interrelated scopes of work: community engagement, candidate recruitment and expanding the electorate.
This work will include, but is not limited to, building relationships with local leaders and organizations, recruiting BIPOC individuals to run for elected office and assisting them in reaching leadership roles, removing barriers that inhibit participation with and within the MDP, engaging communities on issues of import, and much more. Moreover, this position will also play a critical role in assisting MDP as it launches a permanent committee on Diversity and Inclusion, and collaborating with the committee itself, once launched.
This person will work collaboratively with all MDP staff, the Executive Director and Political Affairs Director in particular.
Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Cultivate relationships and establish regular means of communication with local leaders and organizations;
- Assist in the expansion and implementation of Run Local program in communities of color;
- Create and implement a plan to engage, organize, and mobilize voters and ultimately ensure they vote in the 2022 election;
- Ensure MDP programs, events and trainings are relevant and accessible to diverse audiences;
- Assist in community-based candidate mapping and recruitment projects, including mapping the landscape of community leaders, elected officials, business owners, and influencers;
- Plan and execute engagement activities collaboratively with staff, partners and community members around issues of import;
- Create and maintain systems and documentation for all outreach, relationship building, and training work;
- Provide weekly written reports to document activities, updates, and results;
- Once established, work with the Diversity and Inclusion Permanent Committee and Executive Director on the execution of goals and objectives.
Required Skills, Abilities, and Experience:
- Commitment to Democratic principles and Party
- Relationships or familiarity with Black, Indigenous, New Mainer, and/or other communities of color in Maine
- Highly organized and detail-oriented problem solver
- Able to multitask in a fast-paced campaign environment
- A good listener with strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Relationship-building and volunteer management experience preferable
This position will start January 4, 2021.
The salary for this position is $40,000. This includes a generous benefits package consisting of employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and their dependents, as well as a 401k after six months of employment.
