Any Democrat was able to start a petition for an amendment to the MDP Platform or Charter by enrolling in our online petition system and collecting 25 signatures from state delegates and alternates who checked in to vote in remote elections May 29 - 31. The deadline to submit a petition was June 15 at 5:00 PM.
From June 16 - June 30 the Committees on Rules and Platform will review the proposed amendments and make recommendations on each proposal.
From July 1, 8:00 AM - July 17, 10:00 PM, the proposed amendments along with the recommendations of the Committees on Platform and Rules will be available online for state delegates to view. They will also be allowed to make two pro or con comments of up to 1,000 characters on each proposed amendment.
From Saturday, July 18, 8:00 AM - Sunday, July 19, 8:00 PM, state delegates can vote on the proposed amendments using an online ballot system. State delegates may also vote by phone on the same two days, between 12:00 noon and 6:00 PM.
An amendment to the Platform or Charter will be adopted if it receives a majority of the votes cast, as long as the yes vote equals at least 30 percent of the state convention delegates who checked in by May 28. In other words, the amendment must receive more yes votes than no votes, and must also receive a minimum of 682 yes votes.
