According to a new filing from the Mitch McConnell-aligned Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), the current USPS Board of Governors Chairman Robert Michael Duncan is simultaneously serving as a Director for the GOP super PAC. SLF is spending millions of dollars on campaign ads in Maine to prop up Senator Susan Collins, while Senate Republicans block efforts to pass legislation to save the Postal Service.

Duncan is a longtime McConnell confidant who was appointed by Donald Trump to Chair the Postal Service Board of Governors in 2018. Under Duncan’s leadership, the USPS has removed sorting machines from facilities in Maine and has slowed down mail delivery, putting older Mainers, veterans, and many small businesses at risk.

Senator Collins has been a key accomplice in the Trump administration’s attacks on the Postal Service. She championed the legislation responsible for the agency’s financial collapse and, despite widespread bipartisan support for undoing the damage she caused, Collins has not said she supports eliminating the pre funding mandate. Now, the same man who Trump hand-picked to oversee his administration’s assault on the agency is running a super PAC flooding Maines airwaves with attack ads on Collins’ behalf.

“This is a new level of corruption for Senator Collins’ Washington Republican allies,” said Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Lisa Roberts. “It’s no wonder that the same crony that Trump and McConnell installed to oversee their attacks on the Postal Service is also investing millions of dollars to reelect Senator Collins. After all, she wrote the bill that forced the USPS into its current financial predicament in the first place.”
