If you’re new to the State Convention or need a refresher, here’s an overview for you.

Who goes? Dems in Maine! That includes politicians, candidates, folks who were elected as State Delegates, County and Municipal Committee members, activists, organizers, and more. In other words, YOU!

What happens? A lot! State Convention, offers an extraordinary experience for Maine Democrats to come together and help set the course for the future of our Party and our state. Everywhere you turn, there are good folks committed to making Maine more blue, more just, more kind. It’s a remarkable place to be.

All attendees get to hear from top politicians, candidates, and major national figures, as well as representatives from important progressive organizations.

Delegates will elect their County’s representatives to the Democratic State Committee, the governing body of MDP. They also will elect National Delegates, Democratic National Committee Members, and Presidential Electors, as well as debate and vote on amendments to the Maine Democratic Party Platform (our core values) and Charter (the rules that govern our internal Party matters).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are tickets required to attend the State Convention?

Tickets are required in order to keep track of who will be attending so that we can plan and provide adequate accommodations. Tickets also allow us to distinguish between those who have been selected as voting delegates to the Convention and other attendees.

Why do tickets to the State Convention require purchase?

100% of ticket sales go directly to offsetting the cost of hosting the Convention. Tickets continue to be one of the many ways we raise money to host this event. Reduced-price early-bird tickets are available now through April 15th! Prices will increase to $65 after April 15th, and to $70 for late registrants after May 5th.

Is financial aid available to attend the State Convention?

Yes. We have a limited number of free ticket waivers available for participants (including State Delegates) who would like to attend the Convention, but for whom the ticket price presents a barrier. The Maine Democratic Party welcomes all Democrats regardless of background and means. To request a waiver for a ticket, simply email waiver@mainedems.org.

Where can I find places to stay in Bangor overnight?

We have worked with several Bangor-area hotels to reserve rooms for convention attendees. Once you have registered for the convention, we will send you information on how you can book these rooms at a reduced group rate. These spots will be available until mid-April and are limited, so the earlier you register for the convention, the more likely you are to be able to book a room within the Maine Democratic Party’s block.

How do I request accommodations & indicate dietary restrictions?

Once you have registered for convention, you will receive an email with instructions for requesting any accommodations and indicating any dietary restrictions or allergies. The Cross Insurance Center is an ADA-accessible venue, and an ASL interpreter will be present.

Will the State Convention be live-streamed?

As we learned from our experience hosting a hybrid convention in 2022, live streaming two days' worth of proceedings poses numerous technical, financial, and security issues. Given these challenges and the diminished risks of attending in person, the 2024 Convention will not be live-streamed.

For delegates; most voting will take place ahead of convention. If you are unable to attend the convention in person, voting will be available online at the same time that the in-person votes occur at the convention itself.

Will masks be required?

Masks will not be required, but are welcomed! Anyone who wishes to attend the convention and wants to wear a mask to protect the health of themselves and others is encouraged to do so. We will continue to follow CDC guidance regarding large gatherings.

We are still in the process of finalizing the schedule of Convention activities, this page will be updated. Please email info@mainedems.org with questions.
