    Today, the Supreme Court’s conservative majority once again reversed itself and erased centuries of legal precedent to outlaw race-conscious admissions policies for both public and private colleges. The pair of cases, Students for Fair Admissions v. President & Fellows of Harvard College and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina, were brought by a conservative advocacy organization.

    Maine Democratic Party Chair Bev Uhlenhake and Vice Chair Julian Rogers issued the following statement commemorating Juneteenth:

    “On this day in 1865, the enslaved people of Galveston, Texas were finally notified of their freedom, more than two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and justice long delayed and denied for Black Americans.

  • Maine Democratic Party Announces Dates and Location for 2024 State Convention

    The Maine Democratic Party is pleased to announce that the 2024 Democratic State Convention is scheduled to take place on May 31-June 1, 2024 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

    The Democratic State Convention is the single largest gathering of Democrats anywhere in the state of Maine. The Maine Democratic Party is looking forward to welcoming delegates, alternates, guests, federal and state-level elected officials, and Democratic candidates to organize, network, and build momentum for Democratic victories in 2024.

  • Statement on White Nationalists Mailings Sent to Democratic Committees

    This week, at least two Maine Democratic county committees received a mailing containing white nationalist literature. The mailings were similar, if not identical to the flyers sent to Democratic legislators last month. Scans of the mailings are available upon request.

  • Maine Democratic Party Announces 2024 Delegate Selection Plan

    Following a month-long public comment period, the Democratic State Committee (DSC) has voted unanimously to approve the Maine Democratic Party’s 2024 Delegate Selection Plan (DSP).
     
    In accordance with the Maine Democratic Party charter and Maine state law, municipal and regional Democratic committees will hold caucuses in early February 2024 to elect delegates to the State Convention.
  • Maine Democratic Party Denounces Federal Ruling to Restrict Medication Abortion

    Last night, Trump-appointed district judge Matthew Kacsmaryk issued a preliminary ruling in the high-profile case Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Kacsmaryk’s ruling effectively rescinds FDA approval for mifepristone, informally known as the “abortion pill.”
