Real people. Real solutions. That's what the "Get Real Maine" tour is all about.
This legislative session, the people of Maine gave lawmakers a mandate: create jobs and fix the economy.
The agenda that was pushed was far different. It was straight out of the national GOP handbook.
The same day Republicans voted in favor of a bill giving huge tax breaks to the wealthiest Mainers, they rejected a bill to increase the minimum wage for average Maine families.
The same day the Republicans voted to make it easier for the wealthiest to influence elections, they voted in favor of making it harder for average Mainers to vote.
As the Maine Democratic Party – we don’t agree with this agenda. We don’t agree with putting the voice of Maine people last and the interests of big corporations and wealthy campaign donors first. We think it’s time to stop pushing ideology and time to start getting real about the issues facing Maine people.
This summer, we’ll be touring the State talking to people like you about the real world, kitchen table challenges you face every day.
If you’re a family farmer who’s struggling to turn a profit – we want to talk to you. If you’re a young Maine family that had to chose between putting food on your table or heating your home – we want to talk to you. If you’re a teacher who’s worried about your ability to retire – we want to talk to you. If you’re a Republican, an Independent, a Democrat - we want to talk to you.
We want to talk to real people about real solutions to real Maine problems.
We want to hear your stories about your struggles and your successes. We want to find out what is working in this state and what is not working so that next January, when we walk into the State House, we’re ready to tackle the real challenges facing you.
