MDP Statement on New Poll from Public Policy Polling
AUGUSTA – Public Policy Polling released a new public poll today showing Congressman Mike Michaud leading in a tight race against incumbent republican Governor Paul LePage.
Michaud leads Governor LePage by 39% to 35%. Likely candidate Eliot Cutler is a distant third with 18%.
Public Policy Polling has earned national recognition for the accuracy of its polls. A study by Fordham University named Public Policy Polling as the most accurate nationally among public polling firms in 2012.
Maine Democratic Party Chair Ben Grant release the following statement:
“These numbers are extremely encouraging and prove what we've been saying all along. They show that voters connect with Mike and see him as a strong alternative to LePage and his anti-middle class agenda. Now we just need to continue this momentum. We know that Mike is the person who can beat Paul LePage and these numbers only reiterate that. Mainers are hungry for change, and Mike's blue collar background and emphasis on the middle class are just what they are looking for.
"As Cutler continues to fade, it will be interesting what he decides to do this fall about whether or not to enter the race."
