FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Rep. Cain's statement on Martin Luther King Day

AUGUSTA – Rep. Emily Ann Cain, D-Orono, the House Democratic leader, released the following statement in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

"Today, we honor one man, whose commitment to justice, democracy, and hope changed history. Dr. King's mission will never truly end as long as there is inequality and injustice in the world; and so it's not just important that we honor his legacy today, but that we also commit to one another that his legacy will continue to be written through our collective efforts."

"Dr. King said, 'I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits.' That mission ought to be a rule of success not just for a state, or a nation, but for all humanity."

Cain and the Bangor Area Delegation of state legislators have prepared a legislative sentiment to recognize the Greater Bangor Area NAACP in honor of the Martin Luther King Day. The sentiment will be shared at the annual Bangor NAACP breakfast on Monday.
