Welfare:
Between January 2005 and January 2010, participation in the Food Stamp Program increased by 54% nationally. In Maine the number of people receiving assistance through the program increased by 45% or 71,489 people.

Nearly two-thirds of the households receiving food stamps include either a child (41%) or an elderly person (21%). These candidates are blaming Maine families for our current economic crisis when they should blaming Wall Street and failed Republican policies from the Bush years.
Jobs:
Republicans are trying to compare numbers from the worst recession in 80 years to the boom of the 1990s. The are picking and choosing the numbers for their own political purposes.
