Maine Democratic Party Announces DNC Chairman Tim Kaine as Keynote Convention Speaker
AUGUSTA- Today the Maine Democratic Party announced that its 2010 convention keynote speaker will be Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tim Kaine. The convention will take place at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine from May 21 to May 22.
Governor Kaine is a lifelong public servant whose mission as Chairman of the DNC is to build support for the President and his Administrations' agenda. Kaine was elected Chair of the Democratic National Committee on January 21, 2009 and served as the 70th Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia from January 2006 until January 2010. Under Governor Kaine's leadership, Democrats in Virginia picked up two U.S. Senate seats, a majority of Virginia's Congressional delegation and took control of the State Senate. Chairman Kaine was the first statewide elected official outside of Illinois to endorse President Obama; he served as a national co-chair of Obama for America and campaigned in 15 states for the President. In November 2008, Virginia voted Democratic in a Presidential election for the first time in 44 years.
"We are extremely excited that Governor Kaine will be joining us in Lewiston," said Maine Democratic Party executive director Mary Erin Casale. "His attendance at the convention highlights the importance of Maine's upcoming gubernatorial election and our place on the national stage," Casale continued.
Registration for the 2010 convention is now open. Visit www.mainedems.org/convention for more information.
